Our Story

How it all started...

June 5th, 2026 - an answer to prayer, a response to a calling... a step of faith.

After years of seeing the LORD move in the lives of Pastor Robert and his wife Sandra, June 5th, 2026 was the day they said "YES" to the calling that had been revealed and formed over many years in Pastor Robert's life. So many unique, blessed moments... Like the time he spoke at his Father's Memorial Service back in April 2010 - and his Mom's life long friend told him: "God is going to make you a pastor!" - No way... He wasn't "pastor material" - he was weighed down by the burden of his sins... But God... Or how about the time that he finally started going to Men's Bible Study at Calvary San Juan Capistrano - Pastor Tony Magtoto calling on him to pray in their Men's group (praying was something he didn't do), so now Pastor Robert was on the spot! So he prayed, overwhelmed by the Spirit, tears rolling down his face, sounding all choked up... But God... God used Pastor Tony to tell him "Bro, you're going to be a pastor some day... Someday you'll lead other men in ministry too..." - "Me? Nah...", But God... Fast forward to Calvary Chapel Escondido in 2021 - relatively new to the church after moving to Valley Center, CA - Robert was asked if he would be open to doing announcements for the church - and there, a sweet saint named Betty Robles (a pillar in the Calvary Chapel Movement) once again repeated the familiar phrase - "God is going to make you a pastor". "Ok, Lord... I see what you are doing. But I am not worthy of that calling..." - that's true... But God... A few months after stepping into ministry - serving the children and the men of Calvary Chapel Escondido (just like Pastor Tony said) - learning to trust the LORD in every instance. A quick trip to Costco in San Marcos / Escondido area - enjoying a slice of pizza with his family - an African woman comes up to Pastor Robert and his family and asked him "do you know Jesus?". Robert answers: "yes we do". The woman then responds: "I was driving south on the 15fwy from Riverside to San Diego, and the LORD told me to get off the freeway and come pray with you..." - okay LORD, this is getting a little crazy. But there they stood, this African Sister and the Campos family, in the Costco Food Court... holding hands and praying. A prayer that included a prophecy that the LORD was going to make Robert a Pastor, and He would do great things through him - a man so underserving to be used for anything... But God...

God moved IN the Campos family, and God MOVED the Campos family - to Arizona (that's a whole other story for another day). But once in Arizona, Robert began to see the LORD go into overdrive on the calling. Serving at Southwest Calvary, and eventually ordained as a Pastor at ReFresh Calvary.
I know, I couldn't believe it either... But God... His plans are so much greater than ours.

Expanding the vision...

We remain in awe of the people that the LORD brought
to our fellowship very early on. As Jesus builds
His church here at Calvary Salt River,
we lean into His callings on each of us.
Some have been called to serve in Street Evangelism,
some in Homeless Ministry, others will serve in Missions abroad, and all will serve each other in the church.
Our desire as a church is to nurture and support the
CSR community in using their gifts to the fullest - being
the Hands and Feet of Jesus, here
in the Salt River Valley of the Greater Phoenix area.

Where we are headed...

Through prayer, patience, persistence, and more prayer - we desire to follow wherever Jesus leads us. If the fellowship is 10 people in the living room, 10,000 people in the city, or 10,000,000 people around the world - we will seek Jesus. We desire to walk in the works He has already laid out for us to walk in (Ephesians 2:10).
We want to be examples of His love to those around us, Loving God and Loving Others as we proclaim the Good News of His sacrificial display of love on the cross, rescuing us from death's grip - redeeming us, reconciling us to the Father - and regenerating us into New Creations In Christ!
We need Jesus. Our families need Jesus. Our city needs Jesus. Our county needs Jesus. Our state needs Jesus. Our country needs Jesus... And THE WORLD NEEDS JESUS! Lord, have Your way in us!
Less of us, more of Him... "He must increase, but I must decrease." - John 3:30
